They’re Back! Guided History & Heritage Walks Return This Winter
I promised, and I’m a woman of my word! The Red Haired Stokie Guided History & Heritage Walks are back, and I could not be more excited about it.
I’ll be honest with you: I’ve really missed this. Social media and videos are brilliant, but nothing beats getting out and about with you all, boots on the pavement, looking up at buildings most people walk past without a second glance. Some of the best history in Staffordshire is hiding in plain sight, right on your doorstep, and showing it to you in person is one of my favourite things in the world.
What I’ve missed just as much is hearing your stories. Every walk, someone tells me their nan worked at a pot bank round the corner, or their grandad drank in a pub that’s now a phone shop, or they went to school in the building we’re stood in front of. Those memories are history too, and I learn something new from you every single time. So bring your stories along; I want to hear them.
Here’s what’s in the diary so far:
- Leek, Saturday 5th December
- Milton, Sunday 20th December
- Stoke, Saturday 9th January
- Etruria, Sunday 24th January
- Newcastle-under-Lyme, Saturday 13th February
From Leek’s grand Victorian buildings to the old corner shops of Milton, the Spode chimney, Josiah Wedgwood’s Etruria and St Giles’ in Newcastle, there’s a lot of ground to cover. Wrap up warm, wear sensible shoes, and maybe bring a flask. It is a Staffordshire winter, after all.
This first batch should see us through the darker months, and I’ll be adding more walks as time goes on. If there’s somewhere you’d love me to cover, let me know in the comments or drop me a message. I can’t promise every request, but I do keep a list (and it’s getting long).

Places are limited on each walk, so grab yours sooner rather than later.
I can’t wait to see you all out there again!
