Time Team in Newcastle-under-Lyme?

UPDATE: They wrote back.

Remember me banging on about emailing Time Team about Newcastle-under-Lyme Castle? Well, I didn't expect a reply quite this quickly, but here we are.

Rose from Time Team got back to me, and the first line alone made my week: "Am impressed with your knowledge of this site suggestion." I'll take that, thank you very much.

Here's what happens next. My suggestion is being passed on to their team, who'll be in touch if they want more detail, more photos, or maps of the site. They've also sent over a form to fill in with all the nitty gritty, which I'll be doing as soon as I've finished doing a little victory lap round the kitchen.

To be clear, this isn't a yes. It's not a "see you on site next spring." It's a "we like this, let us look properly," which for anyone who's ever pitched anything to anyone, is exactly the response you hope for at this stage.

But it does mean that nearly ninety years after the last (and only) dig on that castle, someone with the resources and the reach to actually do something about it is now taking a proper look.

Ninety years of nothing. And potentially, just potentially, that's about to change.

I'll obviously keep you all posted, the good, the bad, and the "sorry, not for us this time." That's what the newsletter is for, you'll hear it there first.

So go on then, while we wait: what's your Staffordshire site? The one you've always wondered about? I'm still very much taking suggestions.
